How optional Pro sync works in Floating Notes 2.0
Limited Use: Floating Notes' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Why Floating Notes Requests Google Drive Access
Google Drive sync is optional. Floating Notes requests Drive access only when you choose to enable sync. The free local mode does not require a Google account or Drive access.
Floating Notes uses the Google Drive drive.file scope to create, read, update, and delete Floating Notes files that the app creates or that you explicitly open with the app. We use this access to sync your notes between your own browsers/devices.
Where Your Notes Live
- Local-only notes: stored in your browser’s local extension storage.
- Sync-enabled Pro notes: stored in a visible Floating Notes folder in your Google Drive.
- Browser storage for synced notes: keeps a full local replica, including note text, previous versions and Trash, for offline use.
- Floating Notes servers: do not store note contents during normal sync operation.
Token Handling
Our account backend stores encrypted Google refresh tokens after you enable Drive sync. The extension requests short-lived access tokens from our backend and then communicates directly with Google Drive. Disconnecting Drive stops our token broker from issuing new access tokens. If Google is unavailable, an encrypted revocation job retains the refresh token for up to 24 hours while retrying. Previously issued access tokens may remain valid until Google revokes them or they expire.
Your Controls
- Pause this browser: stop its sync while keeping local notes. Other browsers continue syncing.
- Disconnect Drive: stop new token issuance for your account on all devices. This does not delete your notes.
- Revoke access: remove Floating Notes from your Google Account’s third-party access settings.
- Delete a note: use Trash and Delete forever. Removing files directly in Drive can cause a connected browser to recreate them; disconnect all browsers before removing the entire Drive folder.
- Export: use JSON export to keep your own copy of notes.
- Delete account records: contact Contact support.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell Google user data or note data.
- We do not use Google user data or note contents for ads, retargeting, credit-worthiness, or data brokerage.
- We do not use note contents to train generalized AI or machine learning models.
- Humans do not read your Drive note files unless you explicitly ask for support with specific data, it is necessary for security, or we are required by law.
